You said this country has had a free market economy since 1776.
Tariffs were the first tax and how government was paid for until the 1920s.
So you have proven free markets grow well with tariffs.
You cant hide from that.

Yes, but generally, free markets grow better without tariffs.

Tariffs allow free trade, buddy.
That makes no sense. Put a ten thousand dollar tariff on Korean TVs and none will be bought in the US, forcing the purchase of domestic TVs. How is that free trade?

Tariffs promote US industry so your example would be a good, actually a fantastic thing. I would be happy with that. As an American you have free markets and free trade with 300 million of your fellow Americans and no tariffs between the 50 states. If that is NOT good enough for you Mr. Globalist Hack then please leave the USA post haste. AMF.

Free trade usually means trade between nations. Free markets might describe what you mean. But you knew that. I’m in favor of free markets and free trade. I’ll be staying in the US even if a chunk of the population is in the pockets of union goons who want neither free markets nor free trade. Because competition is bad, m’kay?

Free trade usually means trade between nations. No it it doesn't just because you think that.
Ill be staying in the US even if a chunk of the population is in the pockets of union goons who want neither free markets nor free trade. Because competition is bad, mkay?
Ok Mr. Know Nothing what percent of goods manufactured in the USA are produced using union labor?
Domestic producers have to compete with each other don't you see that? Your mind is one of a globalist bent and not one of a nationalist.

Nope, I’m as much a nationalist as the next guy. And if you think unionized companies don’t recoup their inflated labor cost with higher prices ... you’d be wrong.

I was illustrating the limits of the lack of definition to the term free market economy, not that we should prohibit trade.

No, you’re the one making up his own definitions.
The first definition showing up when I google ‘free trade’ is this ...
international trade left to its natural course without tariffs, quotas, or other restrictions.

We have free trade inside the USA between the 50 states. That is fact. The “international” part of that definition is up for debate.

The United States has to engage globally, Delaney tells Yahoo Finance in the video above. Nationalism and isolationism are the wrong answer to every question.Tell me where you and Delaney see things differently?

I’m not here to answer your snark. Your misunderstanding of the basic terms in a discussion of free trade eliminates any desire to continue. AMF
