Zardoz pretty much requires LSD or something similar to get it. Much of its symbolism is directly so evocative.

I didn’t get Zardoz at all.

I did. I, as a Sci-fi aficionado from the early Sixties, have imagined immortality (with help from Valentine Michael Smith).
