This article is a little rough around the edges but I thought that it had more useful points than most others. From my experience with 3-D printers... something that I feel is important is to make sure whatever you purchase has an active user community for support.

My Wife and kids got me a Bobcnc E4 and Vcarve software for Christmas. E4 not recommend to cut metals, woods and plastics only. I love it, have done several projects already.

Stating the obvious here but still amazed that a slice of technology that cost multiple millions a few years ago now available in a format to the home user for less than a grand.
