Jut put a “Now hiring” sign in the attic, if it is ‘rats they won’t be back.

I had a bat once. Came down the chimney. Tired itself out and went to sleep, and then I bagged it and put it outside, leaving it to fate. Rarely do I let wildlife survive invasion of my territory.

You don't have any bells up there, do you?

can’t we all just be adults and say that critters should be given a quick and painless death....catching them to release them in other neighborhoods is not very effective....

Put a security camera in your attic. If something walks in front of it, the picture will be sent to your smartphone.
Our neighbor’s cat is always the star on our camera monitoring the driveway.

Move out to the country where you can shoot them with a silenced, subsonic .22LR.....How can you be sure the critters will move with you?

There are people who know how to trap the beasts (without killing them). We had racoons in our attic once. They came used cage traps. Racoons love marshmallows, and that’s what they baited the traps with. It worked, they took them away to some wooded place and turned them loose.

Try the Uncle Joe Biden method. Next time you hear the noise walk to where you think you heard it and fire your 12ga in the air. Repeat as necessary.

There are definitely more critter’s in the rural Wild West.
They may be less inclined to move in with you though.
They also tend to be larger.
I have yet to find a WhiteTail, Mule Deer nor Wild Turkey in the belfry...

You are describing coons.
Can you say that?

There are a lot of elk in my neighborhood. I don’t think the drywall would support them. :)
