Hundreds more jobs -- this time non-tech -- are coming to Austin.
Auto insurance company Progressive announced Thursday that it plans to create 1,000 jobs in Austin as part of a national hiring push to add 10,000 workers in 2019.
The new Austin positions will be in sales, customer service and claims at Progressives contact center, which is off East Ben White Boulevard. The center is the companys main bilingual service facility, and some of the positions will be for workers who speak English and Spanish.

Progressives love jobs. They just hate business.
But the name is a reference to American communism.
This company is both, IIRC
She’s just an actress. She improvised the ‘Flo’ character based on her mother’s personality.
I hate the name too
If we can keep the “Progressive” b*tches contained in Austin we’ll be able to keep an eye on their commie asses.
The real Flo is Polly Holliday.
Insurance companies rip us off. Look how many commercials on TV are insurance related. Cost big $$$ for all those commercials and we the policy holders are footing the bills.
These days, I can’t understand “English speakers”.
I should have said “In the commercials she is one nasty piece of work”.
Not good news. More liberals.
Progressive can “kiss my grits”.
Thank you for the insight. Makes sense and it is sad.
I have been fortunate to work for companies that were owned by conservatives and most of the employees were also conservative. I suppose I have been sheltered. I admire conservatives who are surrounded by wacko leftists and carry on.
Yes. We were with Mercury and they raised our rates a lot one year. We had had NO filings for a couple of years (not even for glass which is necessary here in the Southwest). I asked the Rep why our rates went up. She said everybody got a rate increase. We went to AAA and got our Home and Auto for $1,000 less/year. Not EVERYBODY raised their rates.
I hope Mel Sharples didn’t make them.
Progressive is another Soros entity. I would never go to Progressive.

Perhaps, but the jobs are good news.
Of course his people remember him fondly. With all the jobs he created in Cleveland, especially on the east side, he probably hired half of the people fired when the manufacturing plants in town were sold to conglomerates who moved everything overseas years ago.
And he did give a lot of money to the retirement communities, so there's that. Nevertheless, he was pretty far left. Not Occasionally Coherent-level, but close.
I can’t stand Flo and always change the channel whenever a Progressive ad comes on.
Same here. There are many commercials that are stupid and cater to the PC crowd. Metrosexual men, for instance, are everywhere.
