SAN FRANCISCO — Patrons of restaurants and coffee shops in Berkeley, California, who don't bring a reusable cup for their beverage will have to pay a 25-cent fee for a disposable cup as part of an ordinance approved by city officials to reduce restaurant waste.

Berkeley's City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the fee on single-use cups that will take effect January 2020.

Brilliant. Then the patrons won’t order any beverages.

The Muslims will use the cup-washing stations to wash their feet.

Bring your own bag for groceries.
Bring your own straw.
Bring your own cup.

Next up...
Bring your own plate.
Bring your own utensils
Bring your own napkins
Bus your own table
Wash your own dishes
Swab out the restroom
Close out the till

No thanks. Easier to eat at home.

Berkeley. Not San Fran.

Thanks for upholding the fine FR tradition of not reading past the first two words in the excerpt.

CA is getting very good at taxing the same thing 2 or 3 times.

They are charging .25 disposal fee, but we already pay for garbage pickup.

The idiots just voted to increase the gas tax for roads. Then after the roads are built, they turn them in to toll lanes & charge again. Now they are thinking about imposing a tax on the number of miles driven, with additional charges for driving into/out of congested areas. BUT THE ROADS WE PAY 2 OR 3 TIMES FOR NEVER HAVE THEIR POTHOLES REPAIRED.

Hey it’s Cauliphonya! Everything goes! Take your used condom with you to the “restaurant” and use it as a cup.

This is not the proper role of government; I hope it backfires. Interesting side not: cheap, reusable cups cost less than $0.25 each. Restaurants can save their patrons money if they switch to cups that could be reused, even if those cups are thrown away after one use. I don’t like wasteful actions, but it’s worth it to make the snowflakes cry.

So - if one brings in a 2 liter canister, does he get to fill it up for the same price as the amount that would fit in a 25cents disposable cup?

The Rats are nibbling at the fast food industry with their regulations until there is nothing left to eat. We don’t call them Rats for nothing.

Democrats making the Poor poorer and rich richer.

Gone are the days of trying to cut cost and ask for a cup of water at lunch.
$0.25 x 52 weeks * 5 days = $65/year. Just one more tax to pile on, The poor to be the most affected.

I heard that someone is building straws to look like syringes so easily thrown on the ground. Any ideas of what they could make the paper cups look like?

Maybe look like a urine specimen cup?
