No, I meant the movie in which a young Ruth files and wins sex discrimination lawsuits decades ago. I think it’s in theaters now?
Or maybe got pulled due to low ticket sales?
Did they ever find a politically correct host for this shindig?????
Wasn’t it great?
Those faces are forever etched in my memory.
Very cool. Amazing how nonchalant they were about being in war.
What struck me was the German prisoners helping to carry the wounded British soldiers on the stretchers.
These were brothers! Why were they fighting each other?!?!?!
Senseless war all around.
Yeah, I had NO idea that had gone on.
Black Panther didn’t deserve a best picture nomination. There have been better superhero movies that were more deserving.
since they expanded to ten nominees?
all 3 LoTR should have won , not just the finale.
Agree with you. Plus, they refused to include the planting of the American flag on the Moon for fear that the scene might make some other countries mad.
I cannot be objective about the LotR movies.
Although I expected changes, some changes to a character or dialogue indicated either ignorance or disrespect to the (conveniently) deceased author.
Character example: Elrond (who was half-Man) did not hold Men in disdain, and loved Aragorn. Aragorn was his ultimate nephew descended of his dead twin brother. Elrond raised him as his adopted son!
Dialogue example: Aragorn’s words of comfort to dying Boromir were ruined. Aragorn was not referring to his physical victory over many of the attacking orcs, but to his spiritual victory over his lust for the One Ring!
My problem with modern Hollywood - apart from the political correctness - is that they do not respect the source material. People like Peter Jackson see it as fodder for their own creative ambitions.
Jackson either disrespected Tolkien, the author and the Christian, by not reading the books for comprehension, or, worse, reading and understanding them, but secularizing them anyway. The trilogy was not explicitly monotheistic, but it was implicitly so. (I figured that out in fifth grade, before I knew anything about Tolkien.)
Actually, what I love the most about them are the three Howard Shore scores. As a professional chorister, I have sung them in “The Lord of the Rings in Concert”: one of the highlights of my musical career.
From that entire list, I only recognize one name: Bradley Cooper. I wouldn’t recognize him if he was sitting next to me on a plane, but I’ve heard the name!
