Anyone who joined the military before 1975 is consider a Vietnam veteran even if you did not go to Vietnam. I joined the Air Force in 1973 and I am considered a Vietnam vet.

I personally make the distinction. I am a Vietnam Era veteran. I reserve Vietnam veteran for those fine folks that were actually in-country. They deserve it.

Ok, You are welcome to your opinion. I always heard it, as those being Vietnam era veterans, but Vietnam veterans, as only those who were actually in country.
I had no intention of making the USAF a career, but I quickly saw I didn’t want anything to do with the FAA, so that was one of the reasons I stayed in, but I was actually in country.
