A former pairs champion took his own life Friday, just one day after he was suspended by U.S. Figure Skating.

Coughlin was suspended Thursday by U.S. Figure Skating and U.S. Center for SafeSport. USA Today reported a matter concerning him was presented to SafeSport. The details were not immediately disclosed.
In December, SafeSport restricted his participation in the sport before the interim suspension was announced. He was temporarily suspended from participating in any capacity, in any activity or competition authorized or organized by USFS or the U.S. Olympic Committee, USA Today reported.

That is not surprising, although I’ve never seen Tonya Harding talk about that. Since her boyfriend of the time assaulted Nancy Kerrigan, it certainly is in his character to have been abusing Tonya.
Tonya is still upset over those events. Maybe too upset, IMO, since she does not seem to have put them in proper perspective. Without her responses to her abusive boyfriend’s actions and the Connie Chung interviews, would anyone have ever considered her when casting for that dumbest criminals show?
I liked the “booty scootch”
For sure it isnt for everybody and they dont take just anybody, as you well know. And its not hard to find stories of senior NCOs and officers that have thrown away careers over unforced errors. But if she had known, tried, kept her nose clean, and made it through an enlistment with a GED and a marketable skill, her path after skating might be a lot better than the one were familiar with. Thats all Im sayin...
Doping? Strip him of all his titles and banish him to Austin.
I almost coughed up my hot tea.
Her misfortune?
If, IF it is anywhere near accurate, Tonya was never innocent in the situation she was in...
But... what if that shoe was on the other foot, what if one had been raised that way, by that woman?
Would one (any of us) have done differently than Tonya? I say maybe, maybe not...
Please note that I didn't say Tonya was innocent. Life does go on, though, even for the not innocent...
Sorry for hijacking...
She should have joined the military? What?
Diving event to be held this summer, one would presume?
That, for some reason, was I first thought.
Very funny. The black guy “skating” was the clear winner.
“Over on the Twitter threads they are saying he was linked to pedophilia.”
I see Johnny “Fruitcake” Weir has weighed in on what a fabulous person he was.
I am not at all certain that I would get a complete or unbiased story from a movie; movies typically sensationalize issues.
Tonya Harding was accused of quite a few things. Her account is that her boyfriend told her about the attack on Nancy Kerrigan after the fact. Recognizing that any account Tonya gives is probably self-serving, I have to consider other evidence. The facts that she was allowed to compete in the Olympics and that she was not arrested for the attack even though her ex-boyfriend ended up in prison for it both support her claims of innocence in the matter. Her obvious frustration with Connie Chung during the interviews, and her comments about them years later also tend to make her look like a bystander, rather than an instigator, of the events.
Tonya Harding worked very hard to qualify for the Olympics team. She was raised in a difficult environment (as I was) and did everything she could to get above it. I’d say she was successful at it. Many people raised in such an environment (unstable family, extreme poverty) never get out of it.
It didn't seek to exonerate her, it SEEMED to just lay out the story... don't let me spoil it, but I recommend it.
At the end of it I don't disagree with anything in your post. No, I don't disagree at all... I would only add that she probably didn't handle the aftermath of the assault perfectly. I have more empathy for her than I have for most of our statesmen and journalists today.
I mean, if it matters. It's not like I know her or live in the same place as her or anything like that...
