Enjoy great country music from the good old boys and girls.

I don’t like “Jolene,” and I think there are much better Waylon & Willie songs than “Luckenbach, Texas.”

Other than that, a pretty good list. However, Gospel quartet singing was a huge influence in country music, so something by the Statler Brothers or the Oak Ridge Boys, with their fine harmonies, should be included. I also don’t see anything by 80s country hair bands, such as Alabama.

David Allen Coe: The Perfect Couontry and Western Song

Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train

"El Paso" didn't even make the list?

Nor "The Perfect Country and Western Song" by David Allan Coe?

Who is this guy?

My vote is for “Ring of Fire.”

Johnny Cash is one of my favorites—up there with Mozart and Beethoven. I don’t think he did a bad song ever.

“No, you have not written the perfect country and western song. There is nothing here about pickups, or trains, or mama, or prison... or gittin’ DRUNK!!”

The writer explains why he chose that over some other Glen Campbell songs.

“Stand By Your Man” should be Number 1, followed by “Walk On By.”
