the Lyell Theater that was in a strip mall on Lyell and Mt. Read Blvd.
Back in the 80s, the place to go to see X-rated movies was the Lyell Theater. It disappeared in the early 90s.
Tent City was a great place to buy almost anything for the outdoors. It's long gone too.

Well at least I have the memories of a Rochester that once was. I forgot to mention The RKO Palace and I think it was the Paramount Theater were places I went with my friends when we were teens. I can still remember my mother taking us to the Palace to watch Vincent Price in “House on Haunted Hill.” At one part in the movie, where a skeleton rises up from an acid pit in the ground, out from the side of the stage comes a skeleton hanging from a wire, and it traveled across the stage to the other side, then disappeared. It was one of William Castle’s special effects, and it is something I will never forget. I was 11 or 12 at the time. Funny the things we remember from our youth. But at least they were good times.
