Being a Linux pimp is both rude and insensitive.

and I suppose because I support Trump, I am Russian? - I don't understand the your logic.

I understand folks advocating for Linux on desktops. I've even tried it more than a few times. However, you have to know Linux to use Linux, and let's face it, most average computer users don't know Linux.

If a Linux distribution is ever made specifically for the desktop environment, and marketed for the desktop environment, and advertised as a desktop O/S like Windows is, and is as user friendly (except for all the spying going on now) as Windows is, then I would use it.

But until there is a command in Linux that is easily recognizable as Format.com, or Command.com, or changing directories is as easy as it is in Windows, then that's where folks will stay, and that's what someone who deals in Linux distributions needs to understand.

Which Linux OS are you using?

I'm testing several of them for a few of my machines.

(Been in IT about the same length of time. I'm tired of Windows doing things behind my back.)

These guys made some sort of plug-and-play USB stick that can even be used by computer dummies.

I'm presuming it's one of the Linux OSes:

My primary Server OS is RHEL/CentOS but my workstation of choice is Fedora 29. Having said that, I also like Debian based distros.

I’ve used mostly Debian-based (Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Mint).

[[If you use Windows 10 all your stuff belong to Microsoft ,soon it will be monthly subscription]]

Just like if you use photoshop cloud- all your stuff belongs to them- don’t keep paying the monthly fee? Lose your work- they lock it so you can’t edit it anymore until you pay again supposedly- I stopped buying photoshop at photoshop 5

just go with linux mint- cinnamon- easiest- big support- lots of folks try all kinds of flavors of linux- but in the end, they are all pretty similar- some are easier than others- mint is top of thel ine- ubuntu too- but i prefer mint- unless you want ‘secure’ linux- then there are choices that use thigns like TOR, encryption, secure email etc- or unless you wanna run linux off a floppy disk lol- (or CD)but really mint is an excellent linux-

Download and install Spybot Anti-Beacon

https://www.safer-networking.org/products/spybot-anti-beacon/

It turns off pretty much everything that can be turned off - and all automatically.

You might try O&O ShutUp 10:

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

Set it up very carefully. You can disable Windows updates entirely using this program. Here's a recent review:

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/download/security/oo-shutup10-v161400-3330556/

I found Spybot Anti-beacon to be a CPU hog, but I have not used it recently. ShutUp 10 seemed to have no impact on performance.

All of these anti-Windows-spying programs can cause problems, and in the end, if Microsoft wants data from your Windows computer, they will find a way to get it.

Someone here suggested the same program. I’m gonna check it out. Thanks.

I stopped purchasing Photoshop at CS5. I hate the newest incarnations of that program.

I have been using Mint 19.1 for the last couple of day just as a test drive. It’s not bad, but did require some tweaking to get things working, that for me were working out of the box with Fedora. all-in-all not a bad distro.

hmm, everything worked right out of box for me with mint- only thing i had to do was find the right nvidia drivers- but it was no big deal- my system is probably 6 years old now- not real old- I haven’t had to tweak anything really0- but then again I’m a very basic user- just use it for email, web, some photo work, and not much else really- peopel that are hard core comp users would likely have a much different experience I’m sure- and likely run into a number of htings they needed to tweak to get it to where they like it-

My out of the box issues were more advanced things like VPN connections, and IPA Automount issues. but nothing major. All easily fixed with minor tweaks. and again, I do not bash Windows, as Microsoft has taken major steps towards being a friend of open-source. Just a matter of using the right tool for the right job.
