It also boasts Ivan Reitman, as a producer and director.
Ivan Reltman? Who dat?
He's actually the guy behind a slew of American cinema classics. Animal House (1978), Beethoven (1992) and Beethoven's 2nd (1993).
His directing credits include Meatballs (1979), Stripes (1981) and Ghostbusters (1984), Dave (1993), Twins (1994) and Kindergarten Cop (1990).
I watched it twice. Good movie
Costner was also in a show on, I think, the Paramount network. It was only last year, but I’ve already forgotten the name of it. It was a modern day western in which he played the patriarch cowboy of a very large ranch somewhere out thar.
I watched several episodes. I didn’t think it was very good.
I’ve long thought he was an overrated actor. He had two really good vehicles with Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams, but pretty boring and one-note as an actor.
He wasn’t too bad in Silverado, but that was more of an ensemble cast.
The show is Yellowstone. The missus and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
If you like modern western style shows, I recommend Longmire.
(SPOILER ALERT) I’m going to give some of the story here, so don’t read further if you intend to watch the movie.
You have to admit there are some far fetched things going on. I even read somewhere that it was based loosely on the 2014 draft, but I don’t think so.
Here’s a list of things that people have said about the movie that are laughable, but it didn’t bother me actually. I’ve added some of my own.
Goodell being cheered at the draft - probably most absurd.
The final trade of 3 1st rounders and a punt returner to move up 1 spot from #7 to #6 is so unrealistic even Bill Belichick couldn’t get former owner Al Davis to agree to it.
Seattle Seahawks with the #1 overall pick (movie) in the year they won the Super Bowl (real life).
Puff Daddy as an agent (actually not that absurd but still terrible).
Doing film study on a player during the actual draft. this was of course ridiculous, NFL draft boards are constructed months in advance with teams of scouts. Putting on film to study a player while the draft is going on is just baloney.
Treating “winning” the draft the same as winning the Super Bowl.
A draft prospect actually calling a GM on draft day.
The GM dating/having a baby with his capologist.
*You have the Seahawks trading away their #1, only trade back for him? Why, to save a million or so?
*The absurd contention that character matters in football, ie draft picks are passed over, because they’re not overly truthful or well liked by their college team mates.
*Of course there’s the Cleveland Brown fans, acting like they’re the center of the NFL, just because the Hall of Fame is down the road. Hey, it was George Halas of the Bears in Decatur, IL that started things going.
I agree with you. I think he directed or produced some of his better movies. Makes you wonder what happened to the guy.
I saw another B movie where he’s a Track Coach for some Latino HS in California, that I think is based on a true story.
It started out great, and I was getting into it, then it got so stereotypical and phony I turned it off.
Yes. Kinda like a modern day Gunsmoke for sure. (Gunsmoke? Who dat?)
It’s alright. Of course anything starring Costner is held back by his general inability to act.
It was mildly entertaining but not overly believable. What team in their right mind would give up three second round picks for the 6th pick in the first round? Even the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t that dumb.
Yeah, I forgot that one. Did you see my list of things? They make out these GMs to be like pajama boys.
Yeah, after I posted. It was a football movie written and directed by people who don't know diddly about football.
I don’t know what this says about me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the twisted “Mr. Brooks.”
Anyone else?
No neffl, thanks.
I thought “The Untouchables” pretty good. Great score!
He had a lot of good movies. Field of Dreams, the one where he’s the catcher on some minor league team. The Russian spy working for our navy. Wasn’t he in Message in a Bottle?
Liked “Open Range” too.
Rick Spielman, GM of the Vikings, in a heartbeat.
Seen it twice (Draft Day) great movie- especially if youre a die hard NFL fanatic like me!
I used to be die hard. Bears let me down again this year. Was glad to see the Egles get beat. Bears owned the Rams this year, who may very well beat the Saints.
In short, I think we were one field goal away from the
SB
Yes, I liked the movie.
But just like a lot of movies I like about Sports or History (Titanic).
It would have been so much better if they didn’t have to force the romance in there so much.
And Costner and Jennifer Garner did not have the correct “Chemistry”. Seemed TOO much of a December-May Romance.
But how in the world are you going to convince your special lady to go to a NFL draft movie without promising romance.
