The kinds of processes that would trigger an "all at once slide" are not easily amenable, to, say, planting a couple medium size nukes in an inconspicuous way. Moreover, some estimates posit that another 10k years of so of accumulated deposits from the volcano would be needed. Granted, Anak Krakatau might cause a little rethinking of that?

MY worry would be a significant renewal of volcanic activity, causing a major explosion from below, and then a large slide. The geologic record seems to indicate that's unlikely (no record of such), but, MO Nature has a way of pulling surprises. Who, several days out, predicted as much as 20" of snow near the University of Missouri, last weekend?
