If the door was breached with a shotgun, would it not be obvious?
Was probably a combo of both since the shotgun wouldn’t have done a clean job of it.
One does normally reveal all evidence to the public for many reasons.
As the criminal complaint is revealed more well come out.
It helps to have some facts not disclosed to the public that can be used to establish if someone has knowledge about the crime that could only come from being there.

It is standard in investigations of yet unsolved crimes for the investigators to hold back certain details of the crime that ONLY the perp would know. Sometimes total transparency needs to wait in the interest of justice.
Possible - them shotguns have a decent “Kick” - maybe that allowed them to fudge on facts....
