Who uses a hammer to kill a cow

A person who won't use a gun or a knife might use a hammer..but who said those tools were for killing the cow? And...cows ain't got no thumbs or fingers, so they couldn't use a gun...and I know proper butchering technics, but it IS a cartoon, and even the artist has said that sometimes when he gets done drawing the 'toon he doesn't know what it means.
