Sometimes You Just Get Whooped
For anyone who has played football you understand and remember the games where you just got whooped the entire game in all phases. On Monday night that is exactly what happened to the Alabama Football team.
Lets be clear Alabama football fans. Monday night was the worst loss not only under Saban, but I would argue in program history. On the biggest stage, with the best offense in school history, the Alabama Football team got it handed to them by Clemson. Alabama is really fortunate that they only lost by 28. Clemson easily could have dropped 60+ points on that defense. So lets discuss what went wrong and why.
I was listening to Paul Finebaum yesterday. And he had a guest on who writes about ‘Bama football and he commented Saban turn over the staff to bring in more young recruiters after UGa was able to pick off a lot of Saban’s top targets. The turnover worked in some claim this current crop of ‘Bama commits is the best Saban has ever had. But this season the actual coaching suffered in particular on defense where the DC is Saban’s best recruiter but not very good or inexperienced of the actual Xs and Os of coming up and calling a defensive plan.
I think Mullen is going to start picking off his share of recruits as well.
A lot of good buzz for the UF program after the win over Michigan.
Considering FSU has collapsed and the U had a horrible season time for Mullen to vacuum up Florida.
That article wasn’t funny at all.
A stat I noticed during the game said that if Clemson won, the senior class of both schools would have 54 wins and 2 national titles. Two very dominate and evenly matched programs.
Waite, what? One game doesn’t define the season? Tell that to all the one loss teams.
Like big woop. He’s very good but he never showed he was all that.
What went wrong was some extremely strange/poor coaching decisions. When Saban sat on the ball going into the half I knew he’d given up. And then the fake and then Tua running around the end on 4th and goal. What the heck was going on? There are other minor strange things, but these three alone were enough to lose to Clemson who had a darn near perfect day (1 penalty).
That's the last I'll see of them.
I don't know how to fix the problem. Return to single platoon football, limit substitutions and make the 300 pounders run the whole game? Widen the field? The current drug testing clearly isn't working.
A wider field has worked for the CFL, they don't have sumo wrestlers, too much scrambling.
I find it odd Mr. Hurts and other graduates with eligibility are classified as a “transfer”. I did not “transfer” from School A to School B when I graduated from A to enroll in a graduate program at B.
When Theodore Roosevelt led the commission to reform football after a series of deaths one of the proposals was to widen the field. But Harvard just finished building Memorial Stadium and Harvard was the 'Bama of turn of the century college football so the field width did not change.
Every cloud has a silver lining. Bama has not been stomped in a long long time. Now there is no doubt that Bama needs work.
All the recent Bama loses (except Monday’s) could be changed with a few plays. Clemson won this game, there should be no debate that was a beat down.
One on Rush’s best sayings is that successful peoples are those that failed and picked themselves up and tried again. I expect Bama to do just that. RTR
Sometimes you are just in a mediocre conference, so you look better than you are... then you run into a wall.... This time it was Clemson...
