Though a final draft of the environmental assessment report detailing the proposed Interstate 10 widening through Baton Rouge was originally scheduled to be presented at a public hearing this month, state officials now say it will likely be February before the report is complete.
Theres no particular reason why consultants preparing the report are running behind, according to Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn Wilson.
Its just that engineering is a much slower process than the public or I, for that matter, would like it to be, he says. Theyre gathering some additional data as they try to wrap it up.
Completing the environmental assessment is a key step in the federal approval process of major highway projects like Gov. John Bel Edwards planned $360 million widening of I-10 from downtown to the I-10/I-12 split. The report will be informed by reams of data, engineering and, in part, public comments made at a series of three community meetings held in August.

PING.
Pure and simple OBSTRUCTION.
Corrupt Louisiana officials/contractors.at their best!
Environmental impact statement summary: half of Louisiana is under water; the other half is under indictment.
Someone must have painted a 50-yard line in Baton Rogue that they don’t know how to get a across. :)
This section of I-10 narrows to one lane. Yes the Santa Monica Freeway narrows to one lane in Downtown Baton Rouge.
The mind blowing thing about Lousyanna is medical MJ has been legal for 40 years now. The only thing is the State has declared themselves to be the sole monopoly in production, distribution, and sales. It’s no wonder it’s not available, too many crooks trying to get their thumbs in the pie.
A perfect never ending money hole needing continuous refunding? Pretty common anymore.
I have a friend in Alaska who owns a commercial Salmon fishing business. A couple months ago an abandoned stripped boat floated in overnight and beached near the entrance to the port. He said several would go pull it off and scrap it out for them for the cost of a case of beer. They are instead going to try and get big major funding for “proper removal” of this “disaster emergency”. lol
It’s what they do best... And it should be a crime.
Geeeez. What a bunch of corrupt nitwits. I’d just give y’all the case of beer and then buy one for myself as a reward for engaging in such a good bargain.
That’s the funny thing. He said after they get all the money this is probably what they will do anyways and keep the balance. This happens all the time and why our country is broke. If they need 1 million they push till they get 5 whether they really need it or not. I think they should have to give back what they don’t use on the project it was actually appropriated for. This stuff would stop. lol
Nah, just make them send it to Trump for the Wall. Depending on people’s ideologies, some of this crap would end really quick!
Thanks Tol,
Yep that does go down to one lane, and if you time it wrong, you’re waiting 30 minutes to get to that one lane (if not much more). So every day you have an army of drivers who plan their trip to stay clear of those timeframes. The rest of the drive from Houston east is mostly 3 lanes each way, without any choke points to speak of.
This REALLY needs to be done.
I sometimes think we should move funding for government from taxation to “gofundme”. Maybe then “officials” in charge of spending would do a much better job, especially if their salaries came from the same fund.
