So what? Societies need their opioids. Look at religion.
Sports can be an important part of a person’s development. A child will learn the value of team work, listening for instructions, dealing with failure, etc through sport. Adults appreciate the strategy, the stories and careers of players, and the energy of thousands of fans in a stadium and of millions watching along with them on television. Sport is a parent’s revisiting of their kids’ Friday night games, or of their own prowess in some bygone glory day.
There’s a little something more to it, just as there is something more in Marx’s quote about religion being the opiate of the masses that’s never quite expanded upon by the commies: It is the heart in a heartless world.
Yet here you are, along with your 'indifference'.
