Brawl inside Kenwood Towne Centre injures teen girl, three others charged

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 17-year-old girl says she was injured during a brawl at the Kenwood Towne Centre Wednesday night.

Cellphone video shows the teenager being held on the floor of Victoria Secret's Pink store by one girl while another kicks her in the head at least three times. The attacker then pulls her hair and repeatedly punches the 17-year-old.

The attack continued until a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy broke up the fight.

The victim showed WLWT her injuries. She had a large welt on the left side of her head.

"I was getting jumped, and she kicked me in the face three times," the teen said.

The 17-year-old said she purchased items from Pink with money she was given for Christmas. She said she set down the bag and a group of teens unknown to her tried to snatch it.

"And then everybody just started fighting, and I ended up getting jumped," she said.

Investigators have not confirmed that's what happened.

Video also shows a group of boys swinging at each other inside Pink. They knocked down store signs and scattered underwear throughout the store.

Employees called 911.

"There is a huge fight going on in our store. There's some things being thrown," one employee said. "There's about five different fights happening."

Another employee told dispatchers there were between 10 and 15 people fighting.

Deputies ended up arresting three teenage girls. A 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds were charged with disorderly conduct. One was also charged with resisting arrest.

Deputies said after the teens were taken into custody, they remained argumentative and disruptive. According to an incident report, one of them told officers they looked like "a kangaroo" and told officers they "should have been aborted."

I used to go to the Kenwood Towne Centre all the time, but I can’t remember the last time I was there. There are many upscale shops, and it is a nice mall, but roving groups of these yutes make me want to stay away. It is bad enough during the day, but I definitely would not go at night. I’ve seen “rent-a-cops”, but they need a more powerful police presence.

Lived in the greater Cincinnati area for a number of years.
Visited the Kenwood mall many times. What has happened in Cincinnati, an area immediately west of downtown called Over the Rhine (predominantly black) with a high crime rate has become gentrified, forcing residents of the area further north and closer to the Kenwood Towne Center. With predictable results.

When we moved to the area in 1990, TriCounty Mall was great - not so much anymore. Thankfully we live near the Liberty Center, which isn’t on any bus lines and it is harder for the troublemakers to get here. Liked to visit Kenwood for the See’s candies, but that’s about it.

I would propose that every developer that builds such a amll do these 2 things:

1. Dedicate a separate space to the local police of Sheriff’s department for a satellite location & they can be right there when trouble starts......I would predict more shoppers because they would feel more safe.

2. Dedicate a space to UPS or general shipper so people can send out their packages & NOT get them stolen out of their cars while doing other shopping.
