I’d like to know how these people supposedly have a 3.2% obesity rate. They are constantly looking at screens. The most entertained people ever, entertained by screens. It is so important to them they are making it illegal to mess with the results of games played on screens.
We supposedly have a 32% obesity rate. Our poorest are the most likely to be obese, something that has never happened before. What is the difference?

There are many reasons. But many of them have much smaller portions of food and consume less starch. Most of them eat seafood in small portions and not much red meat. It also appears that they do more walking. Many of them also do physical work.
Many of them work in manufacturing production. Light exercise before work was very common and might still be (stretching, circulation, etc.). I haven’t been in Japan but did grow up with a few (near one of our naval air stations). Also had a Japanese supervisor in a production job here and enjoyed working for her. She always tried to be cheerful and was very fair and analytical with employees.
She said that it was too difficult for people to keep jobs here, and that everyone worked in Japan with no shortage of jobs. She decided to move back to Japan.
She and her husband agreed to an amiable split, because he wanted to stay here. Her husband worked in a department right next to us and was easy to get along with and fair, too. She tried to get me to marry her and go back to Japan with her, and her husband told me that it was okay. Weird, huh? ;-)
But I was already married and didn’t want to move there. More recently, I’ve been reading that many people in Japan are working themselves nearly to death. Currency inflation with a very low rate to the U.S. dollar, perhaps? Japan is a small country and has relatively fewer natural resources for production material, but it’s a very competitive nation.
