Like you, I remember growing up with Rose, Orange, Cotton and Sugar. Things were so simple then. Surprisingly, the non-playoff invitational bowls were also around: Sun, Gator, Citrus and Liberty.

Then Peach opened the floodgates in 1968 and we the potpourri of "Really? Who Cares?" bowls:

Although my team, USC hasn’t done all that well there recently, I like to go to the Sun Bowl so I can have steaks in El Paso and green chile in Mesilla, NM. And I like to go to the Las Vegas Bowl so I can have a soft taco at Tacos el Gordo on Charleston Blvd. and spaghetti and meatballs at Cugino’s Delicatessen on Maryland Parkway.
