Many of them will admit that the Democrats formed the KKK but will just say ignorantly (or just lie blatantly) that Republicans and Democrats “switched sides” after that through Nixon’s “southern strategy” or through the “Dixiecrats.” Real mumbo jumbo nonsense.
And all of the promises from the Democrats over the past 50 years, how much better off are blacks?
I had one ignorant (not stupid but ignorant) black man tell me the democrats were the only ones who ever did anything on racial equality.
My jaw hit the floor. He was older than me by a decade but was thoroughly indoctrinated. He lived through it much more than I did but he was thoroughly brainwashed.
I tried explaining that the white kids driving through the south registering blacks to vote were the kids of upper middle class white republicans. He insisted they were from northern white democrat families.
I tried explaining that it was the republicans pushing the voting rights laws and any law making blacks and whites equals. That Johnson only signed the bills because he wanted to cater to the potential black voters as a block.
He vehemently denied it. Nothing I could say would change his mind. It got so heated that we had to back off and stay away from each other for a few days.
I guess ignorance IS bliss.
That was the same thing my EX B-I-L spouted and he lives in MS. His favorite POTUS before Obama was Carter.
