That sure was a vague article. For example, is Ford including every 2012 Fusion in the recall? Or just some of them? You’d think that Ford would know, and that the article would provide those details.

But seriously, was Takata the only company in the world making airbags?

You can check to see if your car has recall issues here:

Years ago, FOMOCO had a major recall when cars & truck's had a tendency to catch fire when parked.

The problem was that pressure switch on the brake master cylinder would leak and drip onto wiring connections below.

The solution? Move the wire harness and blue tag the work.

The problem with the leaking brake fluid was not a problem to them.

It all started with seat belts. Then someone came to The Government with yet another money stealing scheme, this time deafening and crippling air bags. “And now it’s a Monster that will not obey”

I just got one of these notices for my 2008 or 2009 Ford Edge. There’s no Ford dealership anywhere near me. (I bought the car just over a year ago, before moving across the country.) What if I ignore it and do nothing? Is there any legal obligation on my part to have the airbag(s) fixed or replaced or whatever it is they need to do?

Obviously Ford has known about this for several years. Every since the whole defective airbag issue cam up. They are just now getting around to the recall on these models.

I understand that with so many defective air bags out there then they could not all be replaced immediately. But they could have been disabled until they could be replaced.

Old news. I had a 2004 Ranger that had this recall done last year.

something I never thought about do they get unstable after X years (either to go off prematurely or not at all??)

required maintenance to replace them after 10 (?) years and how much does that cost $$$ (not a recall just REQUIRED maintenance somewhere in the fine print ???)

one of those GOTCHAS like replacing those very expensive batteries on electric cars (that the proponents never seem to mention - or the additional carbon footprint that it entails)

Ford, and other makers, are short on replacement airbags. I had to wait about 7 weeks, Ford provided a rental car. I wasn’t supposed to be driving my vehicle with my wife in the passengers seat, and we almost always take my SUV, so we took advantage of the Chevy Equinox rental. I thought it was a pretty good vehicle, although I like my Edge better.

Thicken the metal. I bet they used the thinnest cheapest quality metal. It obviously did not contain the explosion.

I have one of the recalls. It was interesting that the ‘inflators’ as they call them, or DETONATORS, as I call them wasn’t much of a problem until they had replacements necessary.

Obviously I wasn’t willing to wait that long and so those detonators have long since been removed from my vehicles.
