It's not that they didn't commit the crimes. However, the police and DA were MUCH more hesitant to arrest and convict. They referred to the blind eye toward women as "street justice". A benefit of more advanced equality of opportunity...

I don’t know about that. Young women didn’t act like that, for the most part, when I was in my 20s,30s and 40s. Like I said, it’s a small town and they wouldn’t need to get arrested for people to know about it.
