Alabama Did What Alabama Does To Oklahoma

In Saturday’s first 17 minutes of game time, Alabama reeled off 28 straight points to knock down Oklahoma before anyone at the Orange Bowl had a chance to buy a second beer. That early lead proved to be the cushion Alabama needed to coast to an easy, if not entirely calm, victory in Miami. The final score flatters the Sooners a bit, since the Crimson Tide ended up winning by only 11 points, with a final score of 45-34.

The early barrage was a prime example of what Alabama does to pretty much anyone not named Georgia or Clemson; they hit fast and hard and jump out to huge leads before their opponents even get settled into the game.

Oklahoma first made it interesting in the second quarter, with Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray driving the Sooners down the field for their first score, a two-yard scamper by Trey Sermon. Oklahoma would go on to tack on a field goal later in the quarter, though they also allowed Alabama to get a field goal of their own before half.

The second half was a souped-up version of the second quarter, as Oklahoma first closed the gap to 11 points late in the third, thanks to a beastly 49-yard throw from Murray to Charleston Rambo:

However, the Tide immediately responded with a crowd-quieting 75-yard touchdown drive, as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa picked apart the Oklahoma defense with his trademark precision passing (25-27, 318 yards). Oklahoma would close the lead to 11 twice more in the fourth quarter, but Alabama was ready for the Sooners’ surge, responding with a quick five play drive to push the score to 45-27, before running out the clock on the shoulders of star running back Josh Jacobs.(Tua took a 'knee' twice at the goal line)

The upcoming championship game will go down in history as perhaps the greatest game in college football history — and the last great game. Peak game. The football status quo has a host of flaws, any of several being fatal, and sooner rather than later. As someone who has loved college football for a half-century, I will watch with great interest and no special devotion to either team.

I couldn’t get the game so kept up with the score. Went to sleep after the half. Looked like OU was doing better but did not expect them to keep it close which they did.

I think I would take Clemson if I were a betting man, especially counting the likely point spread.

This gets old. I can’t believe other schools can’t put together a team to not be embarrassed by Alabama.

I really think Alabama is a pro team. Just too good to be just college kids.

From that crazy black man from NYC., ‘the rents too damn high’. Ban Alabama! ....damn racists. ....lol

Clemson just might beat them. Should be a great game.

What Alabama does to Oklahoma?

The series if you call it that, Is OU-3 Alabama-2 and one tie. OU embarassed them mighty bad in 2014 and far worse than last night.

As long as they DON’T KNEEL. I’m fine with college football.

NFL is dead to me.

Alabama turned thug when they felt threatened. Not a good look for them. There was a helmet to helmet shot on Murray that was never called. In the Iowa State/Washington State game the night before they threw the defender out of the game for virtually the same helmet-jarring hit. Not a word from the Alabama-swooning commentators last night.

Alabama has the best Semi-Professional Football team playing college football today. What the heck happened to LSU and Georgia and Florida State.. uhhh.. and Michigan. and who’s league is Ohio State playing in these days, Pop Warner?

Bama called off the dogs in second half and especially in the 4th quarter... rt tackle was in a band uniform a couple of times and then Sabin had offense take a knee three times with a minute and a half to go and were first and goal on about the 3.

Alabama beats Oklahoma once every fifty years. 1963 & 2018.

Cheer up, it’s only fifty years to 2068.

Actually, Alabama is one of the few teams I respect other than OU.

Tide Wins First Orange Bowl In 52 Years

"With the Tide’s victory over Oklahoma, Alabama avenged its 2013 loss to the Sooners and now moves to 2-3-1 all-time against OU. The Tide also moved to 5-4 all time in the Orange Bowl. It was a bowl game Alabama had not won since 1966, including some heartbreaking losses in that span against Notre Dame (1975) and Michigan (2000).
In fairness, Alabama has rarely made Orange Bowl appearances in the previous 40 years, but last night’s physical domination of the Big 12 champs did remove a lot of the bad taste from the fan base’s collective palates. "

Everybody claims to prefer college over NFL. The NFL is almost unwatchable and I don’t watch much but at least you have parity in the NFL. Well if the owner is willing to put out money equal to others which the cap allows. In college my little team can have a couple good years and then the coach is hired away by bigger richer schools or schools willing to put out the money.

What? OU beat Bama by 14 in 2014. Bama won by 11 last night, while taking a knee on OU’s 6 yard line. Neither team’s loss could be considered as an embarrassment.

You obviously didn’t watch the game. I root for Okla and knew they didn’t have a chance as the AL start showed. You need a defense in playoff play.
