I read somewhere that a well-placed rifle shot could cause a transformer to explode.The point of that article was that a couple of terrorists with rifles could cause a bit of a disruption.
I’m not saying it happened here. Just making a side comment.

Not as easy as that sounds. There is a lot of redundancy and resiliency in the grid. You could do some damage with a rifle and knew what to shot, but other than damaging that expensive piece of equipment, not much will happen. Utilities have spent a fortune protecting substations since the attack on the Metcalf substation in San Jose. The shooters were there for around 15 minutes and fired over 100 rounds. I think $10,000,000 in damages, and not a single customer lost power. Just saying. Now if you had an EMP device, might be different.
