“The officer left and then did proceed to get an arrest warrant because Mr. Johnson answered the door with a firearm,”
So that is grounds for an arrest warrant and to shoot someone running away hours later?
Well, I guess they will murder me too, because I live in a similar situation, and day or night I will be armed when greeting unexpected ‘visitors’.
It seems like various forms of government have a license to kill.
Don’t believe me? Ask Lavoy Finicum...or the Branch Davidians.

I see grounds for charges of first degree murder, felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, deprivation of civil rights under color of law ...
This story raises important issues. I wish the reporter had asked and provided answers for the following:
1) The widow’s lawyer is quoted twice about the “arrest warrant”. The prosecutor is quoted regarding a “search warrant”. Was it a search warrant or an arrest warrant? Which lawyer is mischaracterizing the nature of the warrant?
2) Was any sort of warrant actually obtained BEFORE the raid?
3) Was it signed by a judge before the fact?
4) What evidence and facts were sworn to, to justify the warrant? By whom?
5) Was evidence was found at the scene that the warrant authorized looking for? What?
6) What law is broken when a man in an isolated area answers the door armed? Nothing in the article says the homeowner threatened the LEO with his gun, just that he had it.
7) Did anything unlawful happen during the “welfare check”? What?
“The deputy conducted the welfare check at around midnight.”
Anyone who checks on a knock around midnight should expect that the knock is from someone who will home invade.
Bringing a weapon should be reasonable.
Mr. Johnson answered the door with a firearm,
I live in a rural area 40 miles south of downtown Houston, but 1 mile away from a relatively small impoverished neighborhood (one guys shotgun house was on fire when we, the local volunteer fire department showed up; he sat in his front yard drinking beer and said “let it burn, I ain’t claiming nuttin’ on insurance.. like I had it anyway”), with a 500 foot long driveway. I answer the door armed with a firearm every single time the dogs bark and I’m NOT expecting someone. (Ok, so, most the time, there’s a firearm within reach even if I AM expecting someone).
Smells like a setup. Wife HAD to have known that her husband was the sort to answer late night knocks at the door with a gun, when she sent the police to “check on him”.
I have neighbors I can call if I want somebody to check on my house.

Suicide by cop.
The Bonner County Daily Bee is a really bad source for “news”. They rarely get the story right and are notorious for leaving out key details. Keith Kinniard is a moron libtard. As you can see from the other postings from slightly more reputable sources there is a lot more to the story than what is reported in the “Bee”.
Our Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler is very conservative and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. That being said, this whole incident smells bad.
I answer my door with a firearm in hand from time to time...especially at night and when i have no idea of who it is outside the door....
