Its way past time to start disarming the police. police with military weapons, vehicles, uniforms and training are not peace officers they are militaries, they are unconstitutional and they are a menace to society. These LEO armys ane not protecting anyone but themselves and their illegitimate power. It time the people comet together and put an end to standing armys
Yep, never get the cops involved if you can possibly help it.
Just,
Do Not Open The DOOR!

"...The arrest warrant was issued after an encounter between another deputy and Johnson at the home late Sunday night. Johnsons wife had requested deputies check her husbands welfare when she couldnt reach him by phone, according to the ISP. When Deputy Gary Madden arrived and approached the well-lit house, Johnson went out on a second-story porch and waved a gun, demanding that Madden get off his property, according to court records. Madden wrote that he identified himself as a deputy, drew his gun and took cover behind his patrol car as he yelled for Johnson to drop the gun. Instead, Johnson turned around and went back inside his house and Madden left the scene. The entire encounter lasted four minutes, according to dispatch records..."

So a welfare check spins completely out of control and a person with no criminal record approached in his home at midnight is dead.
“Was it Lon Hariuchi?”
Horiuchi. I think he’s still hiding out.
I see grounds for charges of first degree murder, felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, deprivation of civil rights under color of law ...
This story raises important issues. I wish the reporter had asked and provided answers for the following:
1) The widow’s lawyer is quoted twice about the “arrest warrant”. The prosecutor is quoted regarding a “search warrant”. Was it a search warrant or an arrest warrant? Which lawyer is mischaracterizing the nature of the warrant?
2) Was any sort of warrant actually obtained BEFORE the raid?
3) Was it signed by a judge before the fact?
4) What evidence and facts were sworn to, to justify the warrant? By whom?
5) Was evidence was found at the scene that the warrant authorized looking for? What?
6) What law is broken when a man in an isolated area answers the door armed? Nothing in the article says the homeowner threatened the LEO with his gun, just that he had it.
7) Did anything unlawful happen during the “welfare check”? What?
“So they went to do a welfare check, found out he was ok, but since he answered the door with a gun they came back with a Bearcat and snipers and killed him.”
I was thinking the same thing. Who wouldn’t answer the door without a gun out in the middle of nowhere at midnight no less. Where’s the crime to justify an arrest warrant? Filthy cops.
Jesus-if his wife wanted him dead, then she has just gotten away with the perfect crime-maybe someone should look into the state of their relationship...
If the gun grabbers ever get their way, they’ll wipe out the population of this whole rural area sending sheriff’s deputies on “welfare checks”-it is a remote area-none of us are stupid enough to not have a firearm close at hand-especially in the dark of night, when thieves drive from the city, hoping to score stolen goods-not realizing that rednecks are armed...
On the positive side, we have locked gates, long driveways, and the deputies who are neighbors and know everybody...
“The deputy conducted the welfare check at around midnight.”
Anyone who checks on a knock around midnight should expect that the knock is from someone who will home invade.
Bringing a weapon should be reasonable.
“never get the cops involved if you can possibly help it.”
Amen-that is a a mantra to repeat and live by-if you aren’t able to get in touch with someone, call a family member, friend , neighbor-someone who lives close-and ask them to go by and announce who they are before knocking on the door-hell, you can’t even file a missing person report for 24-48 hours, just leave the cops out of it until then...
Mr. Johnson answered the door with a firearm,
I live in a rural area 40 miles south of downtown Houston, but 1 mile away from a relatively small impoverished neighborhood (one guys shotgun house was on fire when we, the local volunteer fire department showed up; he sat in his front yard drinking beer and said “let it burn, I ain’t claiming nuttin’ on insurance.. like I had it anyway”), with a 500 foot long driveway. I answer the door armed with a firearm every single time the dogs bark and I’m NOT expecting someone. (Ok, so, most the time, there’s a firearm within reach even if I AM expecting someone).
"...Just Do Not Open The DOOR!..."
Smells like a setup. Wife HAD to have known that her husband was the sort to answer late night knocks at the door with a gun, when she sent the police to “check on him”.
I have neighbors I can call if I want somebody to check on my house.
>>If your phone rings you better move heaven and hell to answer it.<<
Assuming the phone was working and turned on.
For late-night visitors, it may be prudent to have a video doorbell. The “Ring” system (below) gives you video, plus 2-way audio with whoever’s there. This allows you to get some idea of who’s there and what they want, without any need to open the door first, or give the visitor information about your state of being armed.

If somebody comes to my door and announces its the police, my response would be to ask them to do their cop lights and siren for a second to demonstrate. Meanwhile having 911 on the line asking if they sent them.
Geesh the definition of OLD on FR seems to be getting more ridiculous.
50 is not old, thank you very much.
1900 square miles
population - 43,000
What's more important is that THEY were bothering HIM. Twice.
He wasn't bothering anyone.
Is there a death penalty for being armed on your own property while being bothered by gunthugs with sniper rifles and Bearcats?
