> transformer explosions

This comment caught my attention. “Not only do I know stuff about beer, racing, firefighting, and paramedicine, but my step father just retired from Ohio Edison. Not all transformer explosions are green mind you. It depends on the age of the transformer, whether they still have the old, toxic oil in them, or the new environmentally friendly oils. I’ve seen them explode blue, white, and green. It depends on what they are distributing power to, and how much. Was it overloaded or struck by lightning? All factors to consider.”

Whatever exploded must have been big and old.

A similar blue light was shown in the LA explosion. If you look at the video of it some say you can see a blue laser but that’s bovine scatology, it’s clearly not. Noting the area it’s likely old as well.

I don’t think there’s any there there if you know what I mean.

I cleaned up a mess related to one going off about 15 or so years ago in San Jose. It was overfilled with cooling oil. There are lines denoting how much to fill one with the oil based on temperature and load, and a not to exceed point. Someone topped it off. The failure point was all of the bolts, spaced about 1-2 inches apart, all the way around a circular access hatch about 2 feet in diameter. Every single one gave way it appeared, simultaneously. If there had been someone standing around it they would have died a hideous death being soaked in deep fryer temperature oil...
