I'm glad you get something out of it. My social circle is so small that Facebook would actually be more work for me than I'd care to deal with. I don't live in the city I grew up in, so have never been in touch with any of my grammar school, or even high school friends. I retired from my job 15 years ago, and there's only one person I keep in touch with from the job. She and her husband, and I meet at the local casino for lunch once a month, and spend a few hours playing the slots. I exchange a limited number of Christmas cards each year, most are with people I haven't seen in years. That's usually the only time we connect.

I joined AOL when it first came out, and got involved in co-hosting a Civil War room, and Genealogy room. I think the experience turned me off to other social media sites. I gave up AOL after a few years because I got bored with it. Couple that with working in Corrections for 25 years, and I think I got burned out with having to deal with large numbers of people every day. Once I retired, I really enjoyed not having to talk to people, or deal with other peoples' problems. I was never even tempted to do MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or whatever else is out there. People have invited me to join the sites they belong to, but I tell them I don't do those. I'm 71, been here 21 years, and it's probably the most time I spend socializing with people, other than doctor appointments :-)

That’s the amazing thing about FB. I lost touch with all the people I met over the years. FB brought us back together.
