A quote from Jay Gould comes to mind....

"I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half."

Maybe if only the essentials got paid, maybe the non-essentials would take their flustration on the democrats who cause these shutdowns. I wonder if how many of the non-essentials are sitting on multiple weeks of banked paid leave they carry over from year to year?

Working for Control Data we would sometimes be forced to take one to two weeks off without pay at the end of the year. If we wanted to get paid, we needed to plan to have several weeks of vacation days to either carry over or use in lieu of time off without pay.

If non-essentials are forced to use paid leave they have banked, and don’t, I have no sympathy for them. They shouldn’t be paid if they don’t work.

Smart ass? Now, that’s not nice...

The military, yes. To a certain extent, however...

Given the armed forces shameful adoption of all things politically correct, there is not only plenty of wasted taxpayer dollars because of it, but our readiness and morale have taken a nosedive because of it.

Transgender operations. Marines wearing high heel shoes in a ‘walk a mile in a women’s shoes day’. Promotions only for those who rat on someone else who fails to toe the PC line. Shall I continue?

Not to mention the senseless and endless and expensive wars we get ourselves into. Sure, we need the armed forces, but not this way.

Since it’s Christmas soon, I’ll leave it there.

I thought they changed “essential” and “non-essential” to “emergency” and “non-emergency” - to go easy on the non-essentials....

“They do NOT get paid during the shut down and do NOT get back pay. Rather tough at Christmas time.”

Boo-hoo! If federal employees don’t have a personal emergency fund to weather a stretch of hard times, it’s their own damn fault. Stop eating out everyday and don’t buy a new car with $500 monthly payments for 84 months.

Exactly. Everyone who wants open borders should be charged for all government expenses. Why should we all pay?

It’s a politically disconnected exec then.
The execs decide who is essential and who is non-essential.
