A couple headlines I saw today, and note the nasty tone of the Fox article, snips below:
Trumps Christmas message to Democrats: Government shutdown will last until we have a wall
President Trump has a Christmas message for Democrats the government is going to remain partially shut down until we have a wall [or] fence.
Trump, speaking to reporters Tuesday in the Oval Office during the fourth day of the impasse, also revealed that he will be going to the border in Texas for a groundbreaking ceremony for a portion of the project at the end of January.
The White House warned over the weekend that the shutdown standoff could extend into the new year, and Trump on Tuesday made clear he’s not planning to budge either.
I cant tell you when the government is going to be open, Trump said. I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they want to call it.
Its a barrier from people pouring into our country, he added. Its a barrier from drugs.
Trump also accused Democrats of wanting open borders while claiming some federal workers are on his side.
“Many of those workers have said to me, communicated, stay out until you get the funding for the wall. These federal workers want the wall, Trump told reporters.
Trump insisted that it would be effective in keeping illegal immigrants from entering the U.S.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! While Democrats Slept President Trump Ended Disastrous Catch-and-Release Policies
From now on illegal aliens caught entering the United States will be sent to wait in Mexico while their applications are processed. Once their notice to appear is available they will allowed in to attend their court hearing. Aliens without valid claims will be deported to their home countries.
Process
Aliens trying to enter the U.S. to claim asylum will no longer be released into our country, where they often disappear before a court can determine their claims merits.
Instead, those aliens will be processed by DHS and given a Notice to Appear for their immigration court hearing.
While they wait in Mexico, the Mexican government has made its own determination to provide such individuals humanitarian visas, work authorization, and other protections. Aliens will have access to immigration attorneys and to the U.S. for their court hearings.
Aliens whose claims are upheld by U.S. judges will be allowed in. Those without valid claims will be deported to their home countries.
Am I taking this too literally? He didn't say, "The government will be (partially) shut down until we have money for a wall or fence." He said, "... until we have a wall or fence."
This could take a while. It brings new meaning to the notion of "limited government".
It is not a wall. It is not a fence. It it’s a “Bum’s Rush Prevention System” (TM).
