It was made in 1946 and released 7 January 1947. I imagine the country was in the mood for a movie like that given what we had just been through.

A movie like that would offer escape from concerns about strikes, inflation, shortages of food, housing and fuel, Soviet high jinks abroad, and other problems plaguing us in 1946-1947.

And it was a flop.

It made almost no money until it started playing on TV nearly 20 years later.

So, I guess the country really wasn’t in the mood for that.

1946 was an interesting year. My all time favorite movie won the Best Picture in 1946...”The Best Years of Our Lives”.

The war was over. Most guys were home, on their way, or preparing to go if they could. There were the Nuclear tests in the Pacific.

Interesting time.
