Hey, hey, hey ... I’m the daughter of a commercial Avocado farmer here. Farming in Ventura CA since the 1800s.
About avocados:
Only eat CA avocados. It’s not pride but Florida avocados mostly come from Caribbean sources. Often they are huge, with long strings and watery. It’s just another animal.
California avocados are ruled by ONE variety: the HASS avocado. It’s creamy, has a soft but firm texture, a GREAT flavor. I bought 6 earlier in the week to make a big bowl of guacamole. There are lots of other CA avocados, most edible but nine are as unctuous as the HASS.
Yep, Hass avacados are the best. Sometimes I’ll see another variety, much bigger with smooth green skin. Those are less creamy with less flavor but I still get one every now and then for a change of pace. Is that the one with Caribbean origins?
.
You’re right!
CA avocados have a high oil content, and the oil is where the vitamin K lives. Coastal California avocadoes are beyond compare.

Just a minute! Florida avocados are the best by far. I will NOT eat a Hass unless no other avocado is available. I live in Florida and have been eating them since I was little. Grandmother’s tree was loaded every year with hundreds of avocadoes she gave away to all the neighbors. Delicious!
Knowing how to choose an avocado in the market is the key. It has to have a certain feel before it is ready to eat. Have never seen a “watery” Florida avocado.
Thumbs up for Hass. But don’t dis the Fuerte.
