I think it is time the Patriots take action with regard to Brady’s successor. But is that Nick Mullins? They found Brady in the sixth round. Maybe they should wait till the draft.
I was thinking that kid at WSU, Gardner Minshew. Plus the Pats had that connection to WSU with Bledsoe
I wouldn’t want to give any “advice” to the Patriots, but this year is not a good QB year, and Brady still has a lot left in the tank. NEXT year there will be a some nice QBs available, and then the Pats should trade picks to get one, and give the new draftee time to learn under Brady/Belichick (1-2 years) before Brady retires. Belichick isn’t getting any younger either, and he might decide to go when Brady does, especially if it is after a SB (Elway style)
If the Pat’s want a 49er quarterback it’s more likely to be Beathard than Mullins.Mullins has grasped Shanahan’s offense much faster and is getting better results faster than Beathard ever did.
Got a better idea. Call the Minnesota Vikings and ask if they’d do a deal for Kyle Sloter. Sloter is a big QB at 6-5, 215 pounds. He played his senior year at Northern Colorado University and completed 62% of his passes. An undrafted free agent signed by the Denver Broncos in 2017, Sloter’s pre-season performance was better than ANY other rookie QB (31 of 43 passes for 413 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 125.4) but Denver let him go and Minnesota snapped him up.
Ever wonder why Josh McDaniels so abruptly changed his mind after practically accepting the Colts' HC position last winter? I'm guessing that Mr. Kraft and Belichick himself told him that Belichick is retiring come the end of the 2018 season, and the HC seat is Josh's for the taking in 2019.
The Brady retirement story, though it will be coming soon enough, is a ruse at this point. The Patriots will manage to draft a good QB (or maybe 2) this year and Brady will groom them over the next season or two for one to take over, probably in mid to late 2020, especially if the Pats are starting to come back to the AFC East pack.
I can even see a scenario where Brady retires at the end of 2020, then stays on with McDaniels for 2021 as a special QB coach to make sure the new kid is ready to go. Don't see Brady as a long-term coach. Maybe he'll go into the brew-pub business with his brother-in-law, Kevin Youkilis.
At least, that's my opinion on all of this matter. You are more than welcome to shoot holes in my theories.
