Junior highs are cracking down on truancy across the nation. Some Oklahoma school are going even so far as handcuffing middle schoolers and taking them to the slammer according to NBC 16 WNDU.
Muskogee Public Schools arrested a 14-year-old in Tulsa, OK at school after he missed too many classes. His mother is outraged and says the arrest was an act of abuse.

"Its my fault! Exactly! Its not my 14 year old sons fault. He doesn't have a car to get himself there."
Stephanie - who doesn't want to use her last name - says she's upset her son, a student at Alice Robertson Junior High, was treated like a criminal.
"I could visibly see marks on his wrists, Stephanie said.
Stephanie takes full responsibility for her son's missed absences, but questions why the school had to go to such drastic measures for her son.
"Even if it's 20, they shouldn't have handcuffed him in front of everybody." But she also said that most of the days he missed were simply from being sick and excused with a doctor's note. As for those that weren't excused, the mother said, "Kids get sick, and they don't always have to have a doctors note."
However, the school district says what they did was perfectly legal.
via NBC 16 WNDU:
"Four absences in a four week period can lead to a possible citation. That's Oklahoma state statute. Its been on the books for decades now, said Steve Braun, Director of Communications at Muskogee Public Schools.
Muskogee Public Schools says they can't comment on specific cases, but Braun says on the fifth absence, a citation is issued and parents must sign, which he says they typically do.
Parent comes in, signs the citation, and goes about the day."
But Stephanie insists that the experience was "traumatizing" and "unacceptable."
Gated community in Muskogee?
Haven’t been there in years but, doesn’t compute...
They aren’t faking it when they *want* to go to school. :)
When I grew up, there was no point in feigning illness to get a day off. If I did that I’d have to stay in bed all day.
Even if I were sick, but felt way better in the afternoon nope, had to rest in bed. I would take my chances going to school feeling terrible because otherwise bedtime, all day, lol.
That photo is from some other state.
Hell of a drive too ...
LOL!
OMG...
LOL
On a bicycle.
I read what you wrote - can’t fathom a more statist solution other than executing the mom on the spot. Foster care is a state-run institution... separating families for the betterment of society is a statist idea.
My kid dindo nuffin.
Which is funny, given that we lived in Lost City, outside Hulbert and my brothers and sisters frequently missed the bus and rode a bike to school in Hulbert
CPS is a joke. Idiot Mother and illegal dad, who “raised” a 17 yr old yute who dropped out two years ago, across the way from me have a visit from the fuzz at least 3 times a month and CPS has been there at least ten times. Nothing happens. Total waste of taxpayer funds and police manpower
Hulbert huh? Hope they didn’t ride too fast and get speeding tickets every day. No Jake Brakes either.
In fact me, and a friend of mine who now lives in Hulbert used to ride our bikes to that very same school.
That's what government schools are. That's the power that government has over parents and children.
there is no way public schools are going away.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Intractable institutions can unravel seemingly overnight. Some examples are the Reformation, the American Revolution, slavery, Jim Crow, and traditional marriage between and man and woman.
Government schooling is not special. It, too, can quickly lose its legitimacy in the eyes of the taxpaying voters.
As for the so-called “good” teachers ( overseers), if they were truly countering the leftist indoctrination, they would already be **fired** “good” government teachers.
Zactamundo...
You know the place and the stories.
They are very real and I cant believe they have 6 cops who support themselves by going Boss Hogg on anyone unfortunate enough to pass through that dump...
Well, I say dump and I still love to fish at 14 mile creek where it dumps into Tenkiller
I use to love going to that burger shack as you enter town.
Great milkshakes.
Damn.
Now I want to Sonic and get a Heath Malt
Frapster, stop frapping so much, your brain is already showing signs of turning to mush. and youre gonna go blind.
Someone help me here-—
This kid is 14 & the “Mother’ is saying-—”It isn’t his fault-—he doesn’t have a car to get there “”?????
A 14 year old cannot drive, as far as I know.
God gave him 2 legs. He can get to school on those.
Proud of Oklahoma for getting tough.
