Pastor John Gray, who leads his own church in Greenville, South Carolina, and still preaches at Lakewood Church in Houston, is responding to people who criticized him for the lavish anniversary gift he gave to his wife for their eighth wedding anniversary on Dec.11.
In a video captured by R&B singer and actor Tyrese, Gray surprises his wife Aventer with a Lamborghini Urus. According to the Kelley Blue Book, the 2019 luxury SUV starts at $200,000.

She will Wreck it,
or stolen and stripped!
He made the right choice, neither one of them would have fit in the Aventador......let alone together.
One early eye-opener was when a pastor at a church I visited (looking for a home church) showed up at my house to introduce himself and "minister" to us, and ended up trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner. As a young husband and father seeking a spiritual home, that was a rude awakening...
Comparing notes of first-hand experiences recently brought up a number of churches where church leaders pilfered the offerings, and / or sold the church property and disappeared with the money. Adultery is commonplace in the hierarchy as well. lt has been a very hard reality for me to face. I came out of a very heavy-handed religion, where the answers to my questions were "It's not for you to know or question, just listen and obey the leaders". Sound familiar?
Even many of the "good" missions and ministries have become a socialist-like ego trip for so many running them that I have become jaded, even though the need is great. I discovered this first hand when I got behind the scenes of several as a contributor (money and personal time) and found even the best had a dark, selfish side.
It's really shaken me to my core, and I am now skeptical when someone comes to me with their requests for time or funds for "What God has called them to do...". I find in most cases when I question them, the pushback is illogical and unscriptural by their own standards, which makes me wonder about the true motives behind their actions in the first place. Even when a ministry might look good, when I look at the personal lives of people running them, it makes me question again their true motives...
Fellow Freepers, I apologize for the venting, but this has been weighing on me for a long time as more and more of these revelations come to the surface...
Lord, help me in my unbelief! Give me the ability to see and hear You, and not those that strive to put themselves between You and me for the advancement of their ungodly plans and schemes....
If she’s wearing a designer colorblock dress, wonder how much that cost parishoners....
That seems, um, a bit backwards to me. If one is a Christian himself, that is, imperfect though we all are.
“Different faith, but where is the church militant on this?”
Being kicked out for not clapping like seals that “our pastor” is such a wonderful family man. We’ve got versions of this sheister here in DFW. The “church” often has a sick desire to see “our pastor” lavished with wealth as some kind of proxy for visible, worldly success.
“Pastors” like this are one of the main reasons that the number of unbelievers are climbing with each passing day.
I think there’s a special place in Hell for these con men.
“... and you can have your own Lamborghini. Just call xxx-xxx-xxxx. People are ready to take your call and donation.”
Those who donate the big bucks to such “Christian” enterprises get what they pay for - a rich “pastor” who loves the benefits of being rich...
Hey Pastor Gray, Jesus thinks you’re a jerk.
Hey, it’s a reparation-slavery thing.
“This pastor was one of the black pastors that met and prayed with Trump”
Well at least now we know why this got the Media Attention.
Funny, but slightly offensive.
Husbands, love your wife as Christ lov d the church. Christ died for the church. This is way outside of how a minister is to behave.
There are good denominations out there. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (NOT ELCA) is one. Our financials are printed in our bulletin every week. You know where every penny is. And the teaching and doctrine are sound
God, Family, Country. In that order.
And Dr.(?) Mike Murdock wants only 500 people to send him 500 bucks . . . No, that was last week, now he wants 58 people to send him $58 per month . . . no, that was (fill in the blank). It’s riot to watch these crooks get free money from suckers each and every day.
No preaching, just reaching! And they get away with it!
It’ll be a piece of crap in 10 years.
Just like Congress, it’s free money and other people’s money.
