I think you have raised some questions that might call for some looking into... so far it doesn’t alarm me, though, because he sounded like a very misled creative type person. From what his dad said, he had realized a need to get out of NYC and (??) straighten out his life. That doesn’t say to me that he was part of the DS.

HOWEVER, maybe he was, and some digging could reveal the connection.
