I see you are getting advice from all sides, so let me confuse you even more. I’ve flown in to LGA twice in recent years. As others have mentioned, it seems to be continuously under construction. 3 years ago, we flew from Indy to LGA via Southwest, because of the terrific flight prices. What a mistake! The SW terminal at the time was like going into a third world country, or at best, revisiting what flying was like back in the mid-1960’s. Everything was small and cramped. Nothing was easy to maneuver. I have no idea if it’s still like that.

Fast forward 2 years to last Christmas (yes, both of our trips were over the holidays, silly us). Last year we flew to LGA on either Delta or American, don’t remember which. MUCH BETTER experience!!! Personally, I would pay the difference, because the experience was THAT much BETTER!! Everything was modernized and streamlined. Very easy to get around that side of the terminal.

I’ve never been to Newark, so cannot advise. We have family on Long Island, not all that far from McArthur. However, what we do is see the sights in NYC for a couple of days before making the trek to LI to visit the family.

Have you ever been to NYC before? There’s so much to do and see. DO NOT MISS THE 9/11 MEMORIAL, and do not schedule anything else that day that you can’t afford to miss out on. It is emotional. Leave yourself time and room to do that properly. Yes, bring tissues. You will need them, even if you are a manly man. It is very well done and so respectful to the families of those who perished.

After that, there are tons of other places I like to see from time to time. If your wife likes them, you both will enjoy the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Also love to just see Times Square, so full of energy.

Be forewarned that if you stay in Manhattan in particular, the hotel rooms are tiny, nearing claustrophobic. We have learned over the years to stay in places like extended stay hotels or ones with “suites” because they have extra square footage.

As a reference, my husband was born and raised on LI, and has some family still there. However, our daughter lives in Brooklyn, as well as a few nephews. I have a dear friend that lives in Manhattan. We have been to NYC about a dozen times since the 1990’s.

I live in a semi rural location now, so when I go there lately, the sheer amount of congestion there is unnerving. It’s exciting, but also, I cannot wait to get home! It’s just too crowded for me. Feel free to FReepmail me if you have any questions. Good luck, and have fun!

The worst flight I ever took in my life was from Newark. They grounded our plane on the tarmac, because of a small amount of snow causing a deicing problem (or so they said), for 6 hours.

Vomiting children, screaming passengers and 3 viewings of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

I still haven't recovered.
