There’s no reason for something like this to be news of any sort, much less national.
I hate to rain on his parade, but I just don’t care. As Hondo Lane said, “A man should do what he thinks best.”
I worked as a front end cashier for Walmart. Worst job I ever had. WM has a lot of problems.
This guy and AOC were cast in the same mould.
17 year old punk.
“The teen also claims that Walmart managers attempt to cut costs by reducing full-time associates to part-time workers, something that the behemoth retailer has been accused of in the past.”
There is no claim in this, it happens I went to work for Walmart upon retiring from the military for about 6 months in 1995. I worked four sections and was the leading sales associate for the store working sporting goods, hardware, automotive, toys, and I was training cashiers. I was not an assistant manager.
When I was interviewed, and they asked me about expected salary, I set a number and they agreed to it based upon a monthly schedule. They informed me they paid on an hourly scale at that level but they would make the adjustments to get to the number we decided upon. That was successful until after the Christmas holiday run when they stgarted allowing me to change my schedule to cover the hours, personally. A new assistant manager came into my section, and that was stopped so they were shorting me of the correct pay level.
When the customer run slowed, they cut everyone in the store in hours. When I brought it to their attention, I was told everyone was paid at the hourly scale and Walmart was allowed to cut those hours to make their costs. I mentioned they had made an agreement with me on the overall salary, they retorted take us to court. I shortly afterwards put in my resignation, and after a whole lot of posturing, they gave me a copy of the closing documentation that they would rehire me. I haven’t talked to them since but to sell them back their stock I had at cost as the price to service it went up higher than the profit from it after I quit so they could get it back as you couldn’t sell it to anyone else.
They pay the minimum wage of the lowest state they have stores in no matter what the cost of living is at the location. And they punish people they get into it with with cut hours or removal of all hours until the person has to quit in self defense but do not fire them. This way they don’t have to pay unemployment insurance.
They are as crooked as they can be and don’t care. They’ll use you like a bad prostitute and then blame you for something stupid and punish you until you have to leave. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with how they treat the immediate area of their competition.

He showed very poor judgement and character in how he handled the situation. If he had legitimate gripes, there were better ways to address them. Using profanity to belittle belittle your employer and management is not impressive.
Yeah. Great idea dipshit. Flap your yapper all over Facebook on how you, at 17, could rationalize quitting your job while burning what few bridges you have. Youve completely destroyed your credibility for at least a few years. Im sure the idiots in Facebook are hailing him and telling him how great he is to stand up to the man.
If theres an employer out there who would see this antic as a plus for their business, Id love to know who they are!
Maybe he will learn why they call it “work” instead of “play.”
How much will he make on fb in advertising for 300,000 views?
5.56mm
Indeed.
Maybe he wanted to be head of scouting for Target.
It seems to me that he used the companys p.a. system to make an unauthorized statement speaking ill of the company, which millions have now seen. It seems to me that the company would have grounds to sue him for that (not that they would or should).
Many of us have probably walked off a job as teenagers but then we didn’t get 300K hits no Facebook blogs telling everyone about it. And employers do check social media connections nowadays. He’d a been better off just walking out and saying nothing.
What does a seventeen year old snowflake (this is how snowflakes act, create a big scene) after one year on the job know anyway? He sounds like a problem employee anyway.
Looking back, he’s gonna figure out Wal-Mart was probably the best job he ever had...cause it sounds like he’s headed nowhere but down in his life.
I work for a law firm that has its HQ in London and offices around the world. We ALL got an email a couple of weeks ago from a gal in one of the offices saying she’d been fired and bemoaning the maltreatment she’d rec’d. Immediately after we got an email from her boss saying, essentially: pay no attention to that email you just read. Pretty nuts.
Can’t help but think of a 40+ year old box “boy” at Kroger. Poor fella. All he ever said was, “I hate this job” and “I hate Kroger” as he took groceries to the car. I don’t shop there anymore so I don’t know if he’s still around but apparently management didn’t care - the guy was always helpful but man, did he hate his job!!
.
Where else can an MR get a job as a checker?
Oh, to be 17 and indignant.
I once saw a 17 year old high school pitcher throw a meatball to a batter to hit a grand slam during a playoff game.
Then he yelled at the coach and just walked off the field.
Testosterone and adrenaline are magic chemicals that lead to young men just blowing up.
Good thing they get it out of their system while they are young and stupid.
