I believe some clarifying is in order here. I am grateful to you. I am the one who thanks you for your service.

You see my friend who died in Vietnam was about one year older than I. His lottery number was low and so was drafted. The following year my number was also low, but that was the year President Nixon stopped the draft. So I didn’t go.

My hunting buddy; I met after he had come back. There were times through the years we worked together. We shared a common faith. We became very close friends. He often needed someone to confide in. I am proud that he came to trust me and share the pain he carried.

He died just before bow hunting season this year. I miss his comradery and the person he was.
