I’m in college and the history course I took at another institution was taught by a lady who insisted on her own Islamic centric view of things. I don’t know any history majors and the current history department is in the clutches of a poorly rated professor who was the architect of well-intentioned attempts to make us all well-rounded but which actually just prevents cross-disciplinary double-majors from being able to exist. I go to a good school. There is a fairly high applicant rejection rate. History as a discipline is definitely in trouble.
For you to resist group think and maintain your mental freedom to make decisions for yourself is incredibly impressive, and speaks well for your future career. As for academic disciplines, it’s a fundamental problem whose solution lies so far in the future that I fear for it.
