VERY EXCITING! Sounds absolutely wonderful. I used to carry Chamberlain’s books around with me to read in random moments. They still give me goosebumps. Visited his grave. Simply awed by the man.

Great grandfather was one of the special judge advocates at the Lincoln assassination trial. He was brought to DC to run the investigation for Stanton and wrote up the records later for the Library of Congress.

This was a paper he wrote on his memories - basically defending General Hancock and Judge Holt.

Would love to hear about your meetings.

Thanks for the links.
The Civil War Round Table meets at Coco’s Restaurant on Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa on the second Tuesday of the month. After dinner, we begin our meetings with the flag salute, using a Civil War-era flag. This is followed by a presentation, usually a lecture with Powerpoint slides. Last month’s presentation was on Mary Ann Bickerdyke, a famous nurse who served with the Union Army.
The Civil Warriors is another such group that meets out in the San Fernando Valley at a delicatessen. Their programs are similar, but I’ve only been to one of their meetings because it’s a 50-mile drive from my home.
