My only question is: Why do FReepers shorten titles by removing significant words, rather than by removing completely unessential words?

For example:

Revere crash suspect may have been impaired from a combination of beer, sleep medication, and CBD oil

Here, all of the keywords (for which one might perform an automatic search) have been preserved.
