AirBnb: Disappointing

Posted on 12/08/2018 8:15:49 PM PST by DIRTYSECRET

Only a few hosts display their internet speeds. Cable tv means nothing if the tv package is not international(American). Reviewers may not have the same interests so information is spotty. The search for the right place is like a fishing expedition. If you like solitude with no amenities it's the only way to go. That way extra goodies will be a pleasant surprise.

Sorry there is no link but it’s true. If it’s on the internet it’s gotta be true. Which leg do you need pulling?

You should definitely use Booking.com instead. They are much simpler and more reliable.

I like Airbnb. I have one great objection to it is the cleaning charges and other charges that vary greatly by host. Just tell me the total charges per night up front so I can decide if I want to use your services. I do not want to go to your site and then discover the additional charges. Just tell me the total charges up front.

ps
Recently stayed in an Airbnb in England. I could not have been more pleased by my hosts. We had a little cottage next to their home and were also invited into their home for pleasantries. We had a cottage with ample space and cooking facilities and hosts that took great care of us.

If you get lucky why should you care about cleaning charges?

If I know the total charges up front it makes it easier sorting through the choices. As mentioned I like Airbnb and have not been disappointed with them.

Boycotting Airbnb since they support jidadistinians vs Israel.

“What? You mean those foreign countries don’t have all the American cable channels? Next you’ll be telling me that some programs aren’t even in English.”

The only English news channels were worse than CNN. France 24, Al Jezeera,CNN, and a few other even worse was all that was available as I traveled Europe for 2 months earlier this year. It helped me to understand why the sheeple in EU countries hate Trump.

B & B were all I used in Europe for travel prior to the internet. The local visitor or tourism office would act as a booking agent for all the B & B’s in an area with pictures of each in a 3 ring binder.

I learned to never book a B&B from the pushy salesmen at the train dtations.

We've used AirBnB in the continental US, Hawaii, and Australia so far. We have found it to be a very good experience with few exceptions. Most of our hosts have been very helpful and informative, and the amenities nearly always as advertised. We've learned to read the descriptions very carefully and not to assume anything. Read the ratings, watch out for places with few ratings, and ask questions if you need clarification.

We stayed in a place in Australia that caught us by surprise, but it was our quick reading of the listing that was the issue. We assumed it was a private unit, and got there to find that it was a large room in a hostel. We were sharing all the common spaces. We actually ended up loving the place because it was so charming and we met interesting travelers. It was accurately advertised. We just didn't read it carefully enough. Another time we took a chance on a hostess with few ratings because it was late and our options were limited in the location we wanted. Her place wasn't as clean as it should have been, but she came and did some additional cleaning. She was young and just getting started with the process. That's life.

On the whole they were all good experiences. We like AirBnB much better than staying in hotels, because we like to cook for ourselves, experience variety, and meet local people when we travel. That said, none of us are traveling alone. I would be extra cautious if I were traveling solo.

Something that looked divine in an eastern beach Sydney community, at $1000 a day, was filthy and full of cockroaches. The photos looked like House Beautiful.
