And do remember that what you’re looking at was owned by the 1% of the 1% back 200+ years ago, and financed on the backs of the serfs.
People whine and complain about how unfair ‘capitalism’ is, all the while conveniently forgetting how much worse monarchism, feudalism, and all the other isms are.

This is far more than tinkering. Indeed. It's such a mastery of several disciplines that it transcends craftsmanship, artistry, and engineering into a category all its own.

I’m not sure I understand your comment.
The automaton was invented by Swiss watchmaker Pierre Jaquet-Dzos in the 18th century - likely a self employed entrepreneur.
The ‘boy’ can now be found in the Muse d’Art et D’histoire of Neuchtel, Switzerland

Sorry, I must have been mistaken in this case. I was thinking more along the lines of the swan, Faberge eggs, that sort of thing.
BTW: The swan - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Swan_(automaton)
I’m just more than a bit irritated these days at how eager our friendly ‘elites’ across the pond seem to be to plunge us into a new dark ages. If they want to go back to the 14th century, perhaps they should just build a time machine and go there themselves, or maybe just move to KSA. Same difference.

From your comment, it’s clear you watched the whole video;) Amazing isn’t it? Dipping the pen and the eye movement - what a brilliant man for his time.

??? I googled the doll photo and it said Seinfeld's mom. I still don't get it.
I try to stay up on 20th Century allusions but television is a weak subject for me. What the heck are you referring to?

I think I observed what I’ll call one “discrepancy”. As the boy writes, his pen hand stays stationary except for the motion involved in writing the appropriate letter. Then, rather than his hand and pen moving to the right to make the next letter, the paper and desktop shift one space to the left; and so on until a line of text is completed. His hand is not writing across the page, per se. The paper moves to the left as he writes each letter. FWIW.
