In the olden days in the USA, if lab chimps or monkeys got lose, to prevent an outcry of animal protectionists, the US would quietly send in a team with night vision scopes, silenced rifles and quietly eliminate the free animals.
Cities often do the same for excess deer, to prevent the animal lovers from having a fit over the hunting them.
You wouldn’t believe the nonsense suburbanites think up when it comes to deer control. Heck there are cities out there doing deer contraception.
