I have been to the airshows at Oceana NAS.
While I was in Virginia Beach, the Nimitz had an accident when several 500 lbs bombs went off on the deck. I took several photos of it rounding the Capes.
The planes were still on deck. Probably could not fly them off. Remarkably there was some kind of military tension going on at the time and the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth had it back to sea in only two days.
The paper said no other shipyard in the world could have done that.
