Most of the young people currently in military service are “Millenials.” My oldest daughter was in the Coast Guard for nine years. My second daughter recently completed Marine Corps boot camp.

I’m not going to try to determine what the respondents meant by their responses. This sort of thing is junk “research,” anyway.

Well, at least Alda has this going for him (from his Wiki page):

"In college, he was a member of the ROTC, and after graduation, he served for a year at Fort Benning, and then six months in the United States Army Reserve on a tour of duty in Korea."

(It isn't that I'm a big Alan Alda fan, I just believe in knowing more of someone's "full spectrum".)

Bad times make strong men.

Strong men make good times.

Good times make weak men.

Weak men make bad times.

It won’t be long before one millennial’s emotional
strength will be some woman’s toxic masculinity and
patriarchal privilege.

Just wait for it.

Yeah, I think the girls who get my two young 20s millennial sons will be lucky. They understand first hand how important it is to have a mom raise the kids. They have seen what happens when a man doesn’t do his part (I wish they didn’t know that). They are strong and smart. They might not be cowboys with a gun rack but they are young MEN and I’m proud of them. They don’t wear feminine clothing, no onesie pajamas, they are into music and hockey...

Not all millennials are wimpy snowflakes.

A b.s. study like this comes out every decade. It was probably worse in the 1970s, when the left assumed that “hippies are forever”.

One of the last good cartoons.

Dexter’s Lab and Powerpuff Girls were really good too.

My sons and DD’s boyfriend are like that ... guns, trucks, sports, jobs ... My nephews seem to be from different planets. But I didn’t raise them.

I’ve long thought that women were becoming more aggressive than men, since the idea is being pumped into their brains constantly.

My son who just bought the truck is actually a truck driver by trade.

He decided not to do the college and debt route, got his CDL and got a job.

He’s only 19 and his job is driving straight trucks. I did the same when I was his age and it’s a great way to get the feel of larger vehicles.

He’s licensed for 18 wheelers and I’m guessing he may move on to that in a year or two.

CONGRATS! But as I said to cyclotic, that was largely as a result of YOUR efforts in their upbringing. You did the right thing. Most parents today do not. Trust me, my experience in this is wide ranging. I have been a social studies teacher in the public education classroom for these last thirty years. Split between middle schools in the suburbs and high schools in the inner city. I'm in the 4th largest school district in the nation, Miami Dade County, FL. Read my FR home page. I retire at the end of school this Friday and I'm moving with my wife of 30 years to eastern Tennessee. I have seen this trend developing for the last 15 years.

It was probably worse in the 1970s, when the left assumed that “hippies are forever”.

Having experienced the 60's and 70's, the Hippies were largely gone by the mid 70's, giving way to the more militant YIPPIES, which morphed into the placid but materialistic YUPPIES, BUPPIES and GUPPIES.

I have much more respect for observations based on your person experience than I do for survey results using unspecific terminology.

The main point of my original comment was that the words used in the article could easily refer to qualities I consider positive.
